Avengers Monorail

In promotion of Disney and Marvel’s highly-anticipated movie “The Avengers,” Walt Disney World Resort is once again wrapping one of its monorails, this time with superheroes. Like the “Tronorail,” as fans dubbed it, on which Disney wrapped graphics for “Tron: Legacy” on one of its theme park monorails, Monorail Red is currently undergoing the transformation to feature characters from “The Avengers.”

This morning Disney has offered a first look at what the ‘Avegerail’, as it’s sure to be called, will look like when it soon debuts:

Characters featured on the Avengers monorail include Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye, played in the film by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner, also starring Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson.

It’s the first time Disney will feature Marvel characters outside of merchandise and on any kind of attraction (even if the monorail is technically a form of transportation) at any of its Walt Disney World theme parks. Disney has a licensing agreement with local theme park competitor Universal Orlando that allows Universal to continue to feature the characters in their Islands of Adventure theme park, as their Marvel Superhero Island existed long before Disney’s 2009 acquisition of Marvel. I’ve been told the ‘Avengerail’ will be restricted to the Magic Kingdom and resort monorail tracks and will not roam the Epcot line as part of a legal agreement.

The movie hits theaters on May 4, 2012, but the Avengers monorail should be making its way around the Walt Disney World tracks as soon as this weekend.
