Yesterday, Disney President and CEO Bob Iger confirmed that the Cars Land expansion of the Disney California Adventure theme park will open in June, completing the 5-year expansion and improvement of the second Disneyland Resort theme park. And today, to mark the 11th anniversary of the park, the Disney Parks Blog has announced plans to rename a few of the park’s lands to offer a total of eight themed lands when construction completes in a few months.

The park will feature two new areas, the redesigned entrance called Buena Vista Street and the entirely new Cars Land. Beyond those, a few subtle name changes will take place throughout the park.

The biggest change will be that Hollywood Pictures Backlot will be known instead as Hollywood Land, a clear reference to the original iconic Hollywood hills sign that dropped the “land” many years ago.

The Golden State area will be referred to separately as Condor Flats and Grizzly Peak. Flanking Cars Land will be “a bug’s land” and Pacific Wharf, with Paradise Pier occupying the back side of the park.

These changes will officially take place this summer when the $1 billion+ expansion is completed.
