American Idol’s Bowersox or DeWyze will soon be “going to Disney World”

in Disney, Music, Television, Theme Parks, Walt Disney World

When either Lee DeWyze or Crystal Bowersox becomes the next “American Idol” during tomorrow night’s TV finale, the winner will exclaim “I’m going to Disney World!” for a new commercial, backed by his or her own rendition of Disney’s classic song “When You Wish Upon A Star.” The commercial is scheduled to air on the same night following the finale.

The classic Disney commercial series first began in 1987 when quarterback Phil Simms exclaimed the phrase after winning Super Bowl XXI. Last year, “American Idol” winner Kris Allen recorded a similar commercial after his victory and subsequently visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park, performing a song for the crowd and making a brief appearance in the American Idol Experience attraction. (You can listen to Show 217 of the Inside the Magic podcast to hear Allen’s performance and a Q&A session.)

There’s been no word yet from Disney whether a similar performance will happen outside the attraction from whichever singer wins this season’s title of “American Idol.”
