Disney’s recent acquisition of Fox was easily one of the biggest stories in entertainment in recent memory, and the shockwaves from the deal seemingly uncover more and more interesting aspects every day.

Fox Searchlight, a branch of 21st Century Fox that focuses on independent and British films, is one of those interesting pieces of the deal. We didn’t know what Disney would plan to do with this distribution branch, until today.

Disney CEO Bob Iger explained his plans for Fox Searchlight on today’s shareholder conference call.

“We don’t have any plans right now to change what they do,” Iger said about Searchlight. “We have every intention to maintain the business of Fox Searchlight. We think they’re in the business of making high quality films. We think there’s ample opportunity for us as a company to support those efforts.”

Fox Searchlight has recently been responsible for Academy Award winner for Best Picture “The Shape of Water,” as well as fellow nominee “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”
