The always-popular Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend celebrated its 25th anniversary just a few days ago, and it was an incredibly memorable experience for everyone involved.
First launched in 1994, the Walt Disney World Marathon’s 26.2-mile course runs through all four Walt Disney World theme parks and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Famous Disney characters cheer on the runners throughout the race, and this year 25th Anniversary-themed entertainment was added to the course. And of course Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy started off the marathon with a bang.
Participants in the 2018 Walt Disney World Marathon received a 25th Anniversary Commemorative Mickey Mouse Finisher Medal, an official shirt, and more goodies. Other events included the Walt Disney World Half Marathon, the Walt Disney World 10K, the Walt Disney World 5K, and runDisney kids’ races. Goofy’s Race and a Half challenges entrants to run both the Marathon and the Half Marathon, and the 5th Anniversary Dopey’s challenge combines all four adult races for a staggering feat.
