Golly! It’s hard to believe it’s been ninety years since Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks first introduced the world to Minnie Mouse (alongside her constant counterpart Mickey) in the 1928 cartoon “Steamboat Willie.” But what better way to celebrate Minnie’s 90th anniversary than with a star on the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame?

This morning, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce gathered together with pop star Katy Perry— a self-proclaimed lifelong Minnie fan– plus Disney CEO Bob Iger and hundreds of screaming fans to induct Minnie Mouse into the celebrated and prestigious public monument. The ceremony took place on Hollywood Boulevard just outside the historic El Capitan Theatre, where so many Disney movie premieres have been held in recent decades.

Katy Perry, a global pop and fashion icon herself, took the stage to gush for several minutes about how Minnie Mouse helped form some of her earliest memories, and how she and Minnie frequently unite at Disney parks and events across the world to spread happiness among fans.

Minnie Mouse’s star is the 2,637th one dedicated to worthy recipients from the worlds of movies, television, radio, music, and theater. “Mickey Mouse is a woman of the ages and her iconic status makes her a great addition to our Walk of Fame,” said Ana Martinez, Producer of today’s ceremony.

Minnie joins existing Disney characters Donald Duck, Tinker Bell, Winnie the Pooh, Snow White, Kermit the Frog, and of course Mickey Mouse among other fictional honorees. The Hollywood Walk of Fame was founded in 1958 and remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in Los Angeles. Be sure to visit the monument’s official website for more information.
