Stroller stolen from family at Walt Disney World recovered after social media post

For Dave and Amanda Diaz, a recent family visit to Walt Disney World ended with a less than magical experience.

While riding Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid with their two young children, the family’s stroller was stolen from its parking spot. The stroller also contained a car seat needed to get home safely, baby wipes, diapers, jackets, and other essential items. Several Disney cast members tried to help the Diaz family find the stroller, but after having no luck, the theft was reported to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Dave Diaz wrote a lengthy Facebook post about the experience, which was updated this week with some good news. The day after the items were stolen, Diaz noticed a Facebook Marketplace ad for a car seat and other items matching their stolen property. Luckily, the Diaz family had the car seat’s serial number, which they turned over to police along with the link to the Facebook ad.

Detective Jesse Hinson set up a fake Facebook account, purchased the stolen items, and met with the alleged thief in person to complete the sale. She was later identified as 24-year-old Amanda Poyner.

The Diaz family thanks Disney cast members and Detective Hinson for helping to recover their stolen items, just in time for Christmas.
