Fav 5 Disney holiday song covers

in Disney, Entertainment, Movies, Music, Television

While there may be a limited number of classic Christmas songs, there seems to be an almost infinite number of covers, variations and parodies of them.

The Walt Disney Company already weaves a winter wonderland of magic across its theme parks, so it’s no surprise that they’ve also managed to make Merriment with their own brand of holiday music.  Listed below are my fav 5 musical versions of Disney December inspired delights.

5. “Sleigh Ride”

I miss D-TV, Disney’s apparent answer to M-TV.  This Disneyfied version of “Sleigh Ride” uses clips from “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” to turn the festive tune into a toon treated music video.  Seeing Toad as Fezziwig again is a pure delight!

4. “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers”

“Parade of the Wooden Soldiers” was one of my childhood favorite Christmas songs.  Scenes from the controversial “Broken Toys” (Silly Symphonies) were edited together to make this music video. Wooden soldiers still play a role in Disney parks Christmas celebrations today.

3. “Joy to the World”

The zany comedy of the Muppets is a perfect pairing with the childlike whimsical wonder of the holiday season.  The only thing missing in this cover of “Joy to the World” is an appearance by Gonzo.

2. “Jingle Bells”

Nothing says Merry Christmas (no, really, nothing “SAYS” . . . ) quite like this this jazzy cover of “Jingle Bells” by the three Muppets that are the most difficult to understand: Beaker, Animal and the Swedish Chef.

1. “Carol of the Bells”

While I find the Muppets much more merry and entertaining, the use of Disney toons in the first two songs add to the festive fun found within.  I do hope you’ve enjoyed this winter wonderland of Christmas songs done Disney style.
