As always, when it comes to holiday season fun in Southern California, Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood are far from the only game in town. In Buena Park (just a few miles from Anaheim), “America’s First Theme Park” Knott’s Berry Farm is celebrating Christmas in Calico once again with its Knott’s Merry Farm wintertime event.
Among the highlights of this year’s Knott’s Merry Farm are the Christmas Crafts Village, Santa’s Christmas Cabin, Calico Saloon Christmas Show, two different Christmas plays in the famous Bird Cage Theatre, “A Peanuts Guide to Christmas” in Camp Snoopy, the fabulous “Merry Christmas, Snoopy!” ice skating show, Snow and Glow in Ghost Town, and finally the grand finale extravaganza “It’s the Merriest Christmas Show Ever, Charlie Brown” on the Calico Mine Stage near the center of the park.

Around dusk each evening, Knott’s Merry Farm guests gather alongside performers and characters from Ghost Town to witness the glorious Calico Tree Lighting Ceremony, complete with Christmas carols and an exciting countdown to illumination.

Though I always recommend Knott’s Berry Farm as an alternate attraction to visit for folks from out of town, or even locals who haven’t experienced the park in a while, the holiday overlay featured in Knott’s Merry Farm this time of year makes for one of the most nostalgic and cheerful Christmas celebrations in the greater Los Angeles area.
The dazzling ice skating stunts and high production value in “Merry Christmas, Snoopy!” alone ensure that this event is worth the price of admission, but all the other welcome touches and yuletide atmosphere help complete that holiday feeling and make guests feel especially warm and welcome in Knott’s family-friendly environment.
Knott’s Merry Farm runs from now through January 7th at Knott’s Berry Farm in Orange County, California. Be sure to visit the park’s official website for more information and advance ticketing resources.
