Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando reopen after Hurricane Irma while some attractions remain closed

Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando have started assessing damage from the hurricane and reopening their doors to visitors today after Hurricane Irma.

Walt Disney World’s Theme Parks and Disney Springs opened on Tuesday, September 12. Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon remain closed.

All Disney Resorts resume normal hours on Tuesday, September 12, with the exception of Fort Wilderness Campground and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Treehouse Villas.

Social media posts show downed trees at several resorts, and USA Today reported blown electric transformers near Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

The following attractions are currently closed, either for planned refurbishment or temporary hurricane cleanup:

According to reports, Jungle Cruise will remain closed for at least a week.

Universal Orlando resumed normal park hours on Tuesday, September 12. According to their website, the parks sustained minor damage involving fences, trees, signage, and building facades.

The following rides are currently closed or delayed:

  • Jurassic Park River Adventure
  • Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls
  • The Incredible Hulk Coaster

Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights will begin as scheduled on Friday, September 15.

Meanwhile, SeaWorld Orlando will remain closed on Tuesday, September 12 to allow for additional cleanup.

SeaWorld parks are expected to reopen on Wednesday, September 13. For more information, visit their website.
