“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson has a good luck charm: actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who has appeared in all three of Johnson’s feature films thus far (“Brick,” “The Brothers Bloom,” and “Looper”). So how could Mr. Gordon-Levitt– a certified Star Wars fan, having dressed as Yoda for the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” world premiere in 2015– not pop up in “The Last Jedi”?

During a press tour in Japan, Rian Johnson dropped the info that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will have an audio-only cameo appearance in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“We haven’t said this yet, but I think this is OK to say – my very good friend, the actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was in a movie I made called Looper, he does a cameo as a voice of an alien in the film,” Johnson told the Japanese media. “It’s a very brief little thing, but it’s fun, and if you watch the movie, maybe you’ll be able to hear and pick out Joe’s voice.”

Gordon-Levitt’s hidden appearance will follow in the tradition of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (directed by J.J. Abrams), which included cameos by director Kevin Smith and actor Daniel Craig.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will be released into theaters on Friday, December 15th.
