Halloween is coming to Disney California Adventure in a big way. In addition to the Radiator Screams makeover heading to Cars Land at Disneyland’s sister theme park, the recently opened Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Marvel attraction will be getting its very own scary new storyline for a limited time only during the spookiest season.

“Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark” will take place several moments after the usual ride experience, once the Guardians have successfully escaped The Collector’s Fortress. After leaving, our heroes realize they have accidentally left Baby Groot behind in the futuristic museum. According to this afternoon’s announcement from Disney:

Rocket enlists you to distract the creatures that have been released so he can find and rescue his little buddy. While The Collector’s ever-resourceful assistant, Apheta, may try to assure you that it is all just a momentary setback, we advise you to proceed with caution!

This new spine-tingling version of Mission: BREAKOUT! isn’t limited merely to the ride, as the pre-show experience will be seeing some new season-appropriate content as well. “As guests enter the Lobby of the Fortress, they may be startled by flashing alarms and creepy sounds – warning signs that creatures have escaped their vitrine cages and all kinds of chaos is erupting.”

This transformation of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! will feature an all-new song created just for the attraction by “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie composer Tyler Bates, and will take place every evening after dark from September 15th through October 31st during Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort.
