Live your own ‘Dolce Vita’ — Italy awarding historic castles and villas to anyone willing to create a tourist hotspot

in Hotel, Travel

Have you ever dreamed of running off to Italy to start your own B&B?

You might actually be able to make that dream a reality. Italy is giving away 103 of its historic sites, including castles, monasteries, and farmhouses, to people who are willing to turn them into tourist hotspots.

Take a look at some of the beautiful buildings up for grabs below.

Each of the properties is located along eight historic routes that run the length of the country and some are near the islands of Sicily and Sardinia.

The State Property Agency is leading the project with the goal of easing pressure on the biggest tourist cities in Italy, like Venice and Rome. Many of the lesser-known areas of Italy are equally gorgeous and worthy of a visit, but they don’t have major tourist areas to attract the crowds.

Applicants who want to snag a historic spot in Italy can apply online until June 26. A proposal outlining how you’d turn the site into a tourist hotspot is required.

Those who are selected are awarded property rights for nine years, with the option to extend for an additional nine years.

So, what are you waiting for? Get that application turned in and start brushing up on your Italian.
