The moment video gamers have been waiting for all year is finally arriving tomorrow night.

At midnight release parties across the globe, Nintendo fans will finally be able to get their hands on “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” for the company’s new console the Nintendo Switch as well as last generation’s WiiU.

Today at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, “Breath of the Wild” game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi provided commentary for some footage of an early prototype version of the latest installment in the “Legend of Zelda” franchise. And this rudimentary test iteration of the game bears a striking resemblance to the very first entry in the series.

In the video, Fujibayashi discusses how some of “Breath of the Wild”‘s new game mechanisms were first implemented in this experimental 2D form of the game, modeled after the original “The Legend of Zelda” video game which was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1986.

“The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” makes it debut this Friday, March 3rd, for gamers everywhere.
