More Star Wars news coming out of Toy Fair 2017 in New York over the weekend. This time around we’ve got a repackaging of the popular Black Series of six-inch action figures from Hasbro, made to look like the original cardboard-and-plastic-bubble cases the first line of Star Wars toys were sold in back during the late 1970s through the mid-80s.
The first wave of this nice-looking set (due out this spring) includes the already-released figures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, R2-D2 and Obi-Wan Kenobi. You can also get Darth Vader in a “Black Series Legacy Pack” that nicely recreates the diorama of the “Early Bird” first-ever release of Star Wars toys in 1977/78.
The second wave of toys, coming later in the year, will include more figures that were already available in the previous-style Black Series packaging such as Chewbacca, C-3PO, and a Stormtrooper. Fortunately there are some new offerings here as well: the Tusken Raider and Jawa figures have not been available in this six-inch line before.
As then as far as exclusives go, Hasbro will be offering the Luke in X-Wing pilot gear figure in this new packaging only at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. And R5-D4 will be a GameStop exclusive.
Stay tuned to Inside the Magic for further updates on the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars!
