As excitement builds for the opening of Pandora: The World of Avatar in Summer 2017, Walt Disney World continues to offer new looks at how they are bringing James Cameron’s fantastical vision to life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

During Disney’s annual Christmas Day broadcast this year, viewers were taken behind the construction walls with the film’s creator and director along with Imagineer Joe Rohde to get an update of how it’s all coming together.

The team talks up the tech behind making the entire land glow and “perform,” if you will. They show off the floating mountains, which Disney has devised to make it look like they are actually hovering above Guests’ heads. They also offer a first peek inside the land’s two main rides: Navi River Journey and Flight of Passage. Navi River Journey seems to be coming along quickly, with footage of passengers cruising aboard a boat amidst a glowing forest. Flight of Passage construction video seems to show a Soarin’-like experience, taken to the next level. We’re also given another look at the advanced Audio-Animatronic figure that it seems everyone’s impressed with.
