The holiday season is a wonderful time for families to take advantage of some much needed quality time together, so in our search for fun Christmas family events to do in the Orlando area we visited the premiere showing over the weekend of the Polar Express 4-D Experience at the Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites – Waterpark. The holiday festivities don’t end there at the resort with a North Pole Pajama Party with Santa, holiday craft making and much more.

The resort, which was formerly the Nickelodeon Suites Resort until a rebranding and remodeling earlier this year, has an impressive selection of kid-friendly activities on the premises with the added bonus that it’s just a few minutes away from the Walt Disney World Resort. The rooms have a fresh beach-themed look to them now, with ample bunk beds that could easily accommodate a few children, but the centerpiece remains the two waterparks and pools which any kid will instantly want to jump right in and test out the slides the moment you check in to the hotel. The popular slime event continues to happen, now know as The Big Wave, and daily poolside events include pies to the face for any participating kid.

After a couple of hours of fun in the sun, my family headed over to The Marketplace for the new holiday themed events. The kids were dressed in their favorite pajamas for some arts and crafts, in which they decorated their very own ornaments, danced to holiday music and enjoyed a special telling of The Polar Express book at the Celebration Theater, complete with sounds effects and snow. Santa Claus himself popped in after the reading and proceeded to hang out with the children and take pictures with all the families.

After warming up with some hot cocoa and cookies that was being served nearby at the Marketplace, we made our to way to the 4-D Theater where The Polar Express 4-D Experience was playing along with a variety of other kid-friendly films such as Angry Birds and Ice Age. A condensed version of The Polar Express film was presented with an assortment of 4-D effects which made it a memorable viewing for the whole family. Wind, snow, chair vibrations and 3-D visual effects made it a blast and it was fun to experience a familiar holiday classic this way.

From there it was on to the Batman Laser Challenge conveniently located right next door. The caped crusader needs your help to apprehend the Joker and lock down the asylum, can you evade all the lasers securing the area? Needless to say, we had to eventually pry the young ones away after several tries with various levels of game difficulty as they tried to beat their top score.

Overall the whole experience got a big thumbs up from the family with its versatile mix of fun during the day as well as evening with these holiday experiences complimenting the waterpark.  The resort also has convenient parking right next to the Marketplace if you’re not staying at the resort and simply want to check out the 4-D movies, North Pole Pajama Party, Batman Laser Challenge and the nearby arcade. The Polar Express 4-D Experience is now showing through January 8 and the remaining North Pole Pajama Party dates are December 10, 17, 19, 21, 22, and 23. There’s also a special Polar Express package available for guests staying a minimum of two nights where you can enjoy unlimited viewings of the 4-D movies as well as the Batman Laser Challenge.
