Ironically, this photo was designed by ITM's Adam McCabe at his last job -- so photo credit: Adam McCabe!

This just in, Star Wars fans: On December 5, 2016, Disney will be celebrating Star Wars at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as well as the upcoming film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story with an invite-only meet-up — and that meet-up will feature Spaceship Earth magically transforming into the Death StarHold on, what?! Yeah.

Disney Parks Blog will be hosting the meet-up, and will include local media, and during their Star Wars celebration, Spaceship Earth will be transformed into the Death Star through digital projections. And before the Death Star appears, updates on current and upcoming Star Wars experiences at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be shared to the masses!

RSVP for the meet-up NOW by clicking here. Only one guest is permitted per attendee. A limited number of attendees may attend the meet-up, so be one of the first to sign up. If you are not able to attend, you can check it out live on Disney Parks Blog‘s site on Monday night.

Also, here are a few things they want you to know:

  • All attendees who sign up for the meet-up must be 18 years or older, but guests do not need to be 18 or older.
  • Limit one guest per registrant.
  • The experience is an invitation only event happening after Epcot park hours and does not include park admission.
  • We will send an email to individuals whose valid RSVPs are received by us before we reach the planned capacity to confirm their attendance for the meet-up.
  • If confirmed, it will be necessary for the registrant and guest to check in at the front of Epcot for access to the event. The confirmation will include those details.
  • Valid photo I.D. will be required at check-in.
  • Meet-up confirmations are non-transferrable and have no cash value.
  • Confirmation will be for the accepted registered person and guest.
  • If you do not receive an email from us confirming your reservation, then your RSVP was not accepted.
  • The meet-up is subject to change or cancellation without notice.

Tickets are super-limited, so don’t be surprised if they’re all gone by the time you read this. But good luck, and may the force be with you!

UPDATE: This event opportunity has filled. Please keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for future opportunities.

I hope it’s not full. This would be an amazing end to our vacation!

  2. Jan

I hope this is NOT a permanent change!
Not everyone is a StarWars fan. (Gasp!)

    1. Richard

Even those of that are fans don’t want it shoved at us 24/7.

      1. Roman

Geez, queue all the haters. How many Star Wars fans spend time at Epcot 24/7?

        1. It’s cue not queue. Internet spelling Nazi.

          1. Hugh

Maybe he wanted all the haters to be put into a line. Then, it’s all good. 🙂

    2. Arthur

There are probably a lot more Star Wars fans than Disney World fans.

    3. Captain Rex

For gods sake it’s promotional for one night you illiterate Trekkie.

    4. mary

I agree with you !! This better not be permanent!! Gosh!

  3. Lee Ann

    Is this real or rumor?

    1. Molly

It’s clickbait. Disney will be doing a projection onto Spaceship Earth to make it look like the Death Star on one night.

  4. Liz

I feel like some of the people commenting did not read the article…

  5. Back in October, 2014, I started a Facebook page devoted to transforming Spaceship Earth into the Death Star (https://www.facebook.com/TransformSpaceshipEarthIntoTheDeathStar), so this news is super exciting! I wish I could be there for it. But I’m still holding out hope that it can happen permanently sometime in the future.

  6. duff

My guess is they will be projecting the Death Star onto Spaceship earth. this would not be a permanent change. wouldn’t make sense being permanent with the Star Wars Land being over in Hollywood Studios

    1. Jenjen1127

I can’t stand Star Wars and I’ll be so disappointed if they permanently change Spaceship Earth.

      1. Captain Rex

Star Wars is awesome I would be so happy with a perminate change. Too bad it isn’t.

      2. Captain Rex

Star Wars is awesome I would be so happy with a perminate change. Too bad it isn’t

  7. Lord Vader

Seriously people, read the article before commenting.

  8. Victor

Because nothing says “Disney” like a fictitious mass murdering weapon

  9. Pastor Rich

Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant, next to the power of the force.

    1. Hugh

Don’t try to frighten us with your sorcerer’s ways.

    2. Captain Rex

      Nice quote.

  10. Cheryl Patrick

OMG! PLEASE say it ain’t so…… Not everyone is a star wars fan. I adore it just as is…..Wheres Walt when all these silly decisions are being made.

    1. Russell

It specifically says that it’s being done with digital projections. Like these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YADbPYJNGOg
Star Wars fans will get a giant death star for one night, and you’ll have your beloved golf ball back the next day.

      1. Sarah

        It’s not a golfball, it’s a geodesic dome. 😉

    2. Alan Smithe

I hate to tell you, but Walt’s frozen underneath Disney World, bruh.

Also, read the damn article before getting your soiled panties in a bunch, idiot.

      1. EricJ

Hate to tell you, but Ward Kimball made up the “Frozen underneath the castle” story to troll reporters.

    3. Dick Gozinya

      dead.

    4. Captain Rex

Walt is frozen in some government facility.

  11. Dylan Kelly

Seriously! That s**t needs to stop! Keep SpaceShip Earth! To all Star Wars Fanboys can go f**k themselves! ?

    1. Alan Smithe

Woah, calm down and go put some Desitin on your buttcheeks, bro. It’s only for one day, but apparently you lack any reading comprehension.

    2. Captain Rex

Wow, first off it’s a digital projection, second, Star Wars has some of the best fans any series has ever gotten.

  12. Kenneth

Half the comment or didn’t even read the article

    1. Kenneth

      Commentors.

  13. Darth Siddeos

Now witness the power of this FULLY FUNCTIONAL Death Star!!!

  14. Brando D

Every needs to relax; this article clearly says its one night only. Celebrating Star Wars and the release of Rogue One. It’s promotional, just like making the monorail look like light bikes for Tron. Disney owns a lot of franchises and they’re free to advertise and/or celebrate how they see fit. If it’s not for you, don’t go. It’s a fun idea and I’m sure they’ll come up with more. It’s a way to draw people to the park.

  15. DisneyMom

I worked at Epcot last night and was wondering what all the digital equipment was doing at the front of the park. Now I know! They were hard at work at midnight!

  16. EricJ

It’s, ahem, NOT PERMANENT, any more than that one night they turned Spaceship Earth into a giant Mike Wyzowski in time for “Monsters University”.
(C’mon, doesn’t -anyone- remember that one, or are we too busy believing Adam’s Last Photoshop Job completely?)
