Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic returns for its seventh year

in Food

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic will return for its seventh year to the Epcot Resort Area on October 28-29. This year will be the largest incarnation of the event to date with 50 food and wine stations and 10 seminars as well as opportunities to meet the award-winning chefs behind the tasty samples being served.

The resort’s restaurants: Il Mulino New York Trattoria, Shula’s Steak House, Kimonos and Todd English’s bluezoo will be amongst the vendors headlining the two-night event. Their culinary offerings along with an international selection of wine and spirits will comprise the menus of various booths lining the resort’s causeway. And this year, the resort’s private beach area has been incorporated for the first time for guests to enjoy as they sip, savor and take in live entertainment.

WHAT’S NEW

A new immersive area, fashioned after the streets of San Francisco’s Chinatown, will delight guests with its décor and dishes. Two new offerings have been created for the area. One is a sample of crispy duck, cucumber, scallion, hoisin sauce and a steamed bun.

The other is a serving of Shanghai dumplings, handmade with pork, rice wine, ginger and scallion and is served with soy sauce and chili oil sauce. Seductive? We think so!

Also new is the Sunday Bubbles Brunch with J Vineyards and Winery at Il Mulino New York Trattoria. This yummy option features a lavish menu of traditional and unconventional dishes. Think cured meats, imported cheeses and an array of sushi and trattoria-inspired entrees.

FEATURED FOOD

Both nights of the event will showcase menus full of new dishes in addition to favorites from years past. New items that guests can look forward to this year include spinach and potato agnolotti with pork, tomato, cream grilled radicchio and ricotta salt; smoked beef brisket with white cheddar beignet and concord grape and smoked bacon remoulade; and seared striped bass with fall artichokes, nicoise olives and Spanish caper emulsion.

Some of the cherished options of past years that will be returning are the shrimp cocktail steamroller, Thai chicken salad with organic greens, green papaya tamarind and ginger dressing as well as the dragon sushi roll with crispy shrimp, tuna and avocado.

But no food event would be complete without something to satisfy that sweet spot in our stomachs.  All-chocolate choux and caramel sea salt éclairs with vanilla whipped cream and comfit gingerbread pears have been promised in addition to many other sweet temptations. This is supplemental to the Sundae Action Station which is returning to guests that want to choose their own toppings like chocolate cake and caramelized banana. Excuse us for a moment. We need to clean up the puddle of drool from the floor.

SEMINARS AND UPGRADES

Two new hands-on educational seminars are scheduled for 2016. The Craft Cocktails seminar will teach guests about the origins of traditional cocktails and how to make them while the More than Malbec seminar introduces the world of popular Argentinian wines (with tastings and tips for pairing). They will join an impressive itinerary of popular workshops that have returned this year that include topics like wine blending, Italian wines, champagne, beer, tequila, pasta making, sushi and sake and wine and cheese pairing. All of the seminars require separate tickets for attendance, and space is limited.

An upgraded ticket gives guests the option of experiencing a beer garden where they can find a variety of local, international and seasonal brews. Oktoberfest-inspired cuisine will also be a part of this fun opportunity.

AWARD-WINNING CHEFS

The food and drink are not the only elements of this fantastic affair. Celebrity chefs will be making appearances to meet with eager guests. Faces like Todd English of blue zoo and the world’s only two-time World Champion Pastry Chef, Laurent Branford, will be in attendance.
