With just about a week and a half left to go until Halloween, it’s become unusual to see seasonal events still set to begin this close to the end of October. There are some offerings left to be unveiled, however, even under the Disney brand.
In particular, the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood begins its special holiday movie schedule tonight, with the modern cult classic “Hocus Pocus” starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, which plays nightly through Sunday the 23rd. Starting two days later will be the perennial favorite “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,” directed by stop-motion animation guru Henry Selick, which runs through Halloween night in 4D.
While you’re visiting the El Capitan this Halloween season, don’t miss the exclusive “Hocus Pocus” and “Nightmare Before Christmas” costume and prop display on the theater’s lower level. This exhibit is accessible to all ticket holders.

Also available before and after each showtime is the “Spooktacular Backstage Tour,” which allows guests the unique opportunity to visit the inner workings of the El Capitan’s cast-members-only areas, including the legendary pipe organ and a creepy dressing room. I had a chance to preview the tour this week, and I can tell you it includes some spooky special effects and goofy Jungle Cruise-style scripted jokes at the tour guides’ expense. It’s a fun time, and especially worth it if you want to get a peek behind the curtain.
Be sure to visit the official El Capitan Theatre website for tickets and more information. And call (818) 845-3110 to book tickets for the tour. Happy Halloween!
