Even though the long list of available Halloween event options in the Southern California area seems to expand every year, it can still be difficult to find spooky, seasonally-appropriate but still family-friendly options that kids can enjoy along with their parents. Ultimately, Halloween celebrations tend to skew toward adults in the entertainment capital of the world.

Fortunately, “Boo at the L.A. Zoo” offers up a tame but fun Halloween makeover for the now fifty-year-old (and still highly entertaining and educational) zoo in Los Angeles’s Griffith Park.

WATCH VIDEO OVERVIEW:

In addition to the usual abundance of fascinating animals on display around the 133-acre wildlife park, Boo at the L.A. Zoo incorporates Halloween decorations, a fun (if tiny) corn maze, and plenty of activities for the younger set.

The “Musical Monster Mash-Up” is a puppet show performed on weekends, and the “Fire & Ice Science Show” exposes kids to the wondrous magic of real-life eye-popping experiments in science. A “Halloween Block Party” invites families to participate in craft-making, dancing, and games, and Trick or Treating will be available the weekend before Halloween on October 29th and 30th.

In addition to the seasonal decor and activities, the zoo is putting an emphasis on scheduled “Fearsome Feedings” and “Creature Treats,” during which you can watch the many resident animals chow down on meat or vegetables (sometimes even pumpkins!)

Also highlighted during “Boo at the Zoo” are the Creepy Caves and The Lair indoor exhibits, which operate year-round, but still fit nicely within the more eerie theme of the season. Watch out for snakes!

For an additional fee, guests can also enter the “Dinosaurs: Unextinct” exhibit located near the zoo’s main entrance. This area features realistic-looking animatronic dinosaurs that help kids learn about prehistoric creatures, not to mention make great photo opportunities!

Overall, Boo at the L.A. Zoo makes for a pleasant daytime option for families looking to enjoy the Halloween season together.
