Emily Mortimer has been cast as Jane Banks and strengthens an already stellar cast for Mary Poppins Returns, the sequel to Mary Poppins. Joining the likes of Ben Whitshaw (Michael Banks), Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins), Lin-Manuel Miranda and Meryl Streep, Mortimer will stand as a grown-up Jane in Depression-era London.
The plot of the movie finds the Banks family twenty years after the events of the original film. When tragedy strikes their clan, Mary Poppins arrives to reclaim the joy and adventure that they once had in their lives.
The sequel has a some big shoes to fill. Mary Poppins, the original movie, was a huge hit at the box office. It also took home five Oscars with Julie Andrews claiming the title of Best Actress that year. However, with big names like Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt on board, it is possible that this film can do its predecessor justice on the big screen.
