The cult Disney classic ‘The Princess Diaries’ celebrated its 15th anniversary yesterday and the movie’s star Anne Hathaway posted a heartfelt tribute to her Instagram account. Hathaway played princess Mia Thermopolis in the movie and could definitely be considered her first big role.

“It’s been 15 years (say it with me) SHUT UP!!!!!,” Hathaway began in her caption, referencing Mia’s notable line (see that in the trailer at 0:32). “To all the fans who have loved Mia, Louie, Lily, Joe, Michael and, of course, Queen Clarisse, thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

Garry Marshall, who directed the movie, just passed away last month at the age of 81 and Hathaway also included a message to him.

“And to Garry Marshall, thank you for making me a princess. I love you always my beloved friend and teacher, and I miss you every day xx.”

‘The Princess Diaries” is about a teenager who discovers that she is the heir to the throne of the fictional Kingdom of Genovia, ruled by her grandmother Queen Dowager Clarisse Renaldi (Julie Andrews). The film also stars Heather Matarazzo, Héctor Elizondo, Mandy Moore and Robert Schwartzman.
