FAV FIVE: The 5 best things to help beat the Summer heat at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

in Park Secrets, Walt Disney World

With today being the first day of Summer and temperatures already peaking in the 90’s in Central Florida, I could not think of a more appropriate “Fav 5” to share.  These may not be for everyone and there many more options, but these are what work best for me when braving the crowds during the annual “humidity festival” that is the Florida summer:

WDW RR

#5 Take the Train instead of walking
the very first attraction upon stepping into the Magic Kingdom, the Walt Disney Railroad can take you Frontier Land (home of Splash Mountain) and the recently added Dumbo’s circus area.  A nice leisurely pace all the while sitting down instead making the long walk to the back of the park.

camel

#4 Dodge Camel Spit
At the Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride, there is a rather rude creature.  He spits.  Improper behavior aside, this camel can cool you off if you stand in the right spot.  Thankfully the ‘spit’ is just water (I hope).

Dole Whip

#3 Enjoy a Dole Whip
Any frozen treat will work actually, Mickey bar or hand dipped ice cream at Main Street work equally as well.  For me, the best choice is the Dole Whip. One of my favorite Disney treats, this pineapple or orange flavored frozen soft serve treat is available next to the Tiki Room.  Sadly the option for enjoying the delicious desert with a vanilla ice-cream swirl mixed in is no longer available at the Magic Kingdom (for that sugary fix, a trip to the Polynesian Village Resort is required)

hall-of-presidents-02

#2 Relax at the Hall of Presidents
While any indoor attraction will offer the comforts of piped in air conditioning, the Hall of Presidents offers the opportunity to sit and relax while soaking in the cooled air.  For some this is the perfect opportunity for an afternoon nap.

splash-mountain-00

#1 Splash Mountain
Front row seats optional, this Song of the South inspired thrill ride is probably the best opportunity for super soaking.  I prefer to leave this for towards the end of my day and then ride the train back to Main Street and exit the park.  A Fast Pass reservation is highly recommended.
