E3 is upon us. The annual video game and technology conference Electronic Entertainment Expo has begun its 2016 iteration in downtown Los Angeles, and the first major announcements have come from Microsoft’s Xbox division.

The biggest news from today’s Xbox presentation was the revelation of Project Scorpio, a souped-up state-of-the-art evolution of the Xbox One console that Microsoft is calling “the most powerful console ever built.” Project Scorpio, assumed only to be a working title, will be capable of true 4K graphics and high-fidelity virtual reality, and is scheduled to become available in time for the 2017 holiday season.

Beyond that exciting disclosure, Xbox also announced a slimmed-down version of the existing Xbox One, plus an onslaught of various new content, tech, and of course games that will be released by the company over the next year– including “Forza Horizon 3,” “ReCore,” “Dead Rising 4,” “Scalebound,” the pirate-themed “Sea of Thieves,” “State of Decay 2,” “Halo Wars 2,” and the controller-personalization program “Xbox Design Lab.”
