DC’s “Suicide Squad” earns itself a rather curious PG-13 rating

Well, this is kind of a bummer.

On one hand, the choice to soften DC’s newest full-length action romp Suicide Squad into a PG-13 rating is a heathy business decision. Families will get to enjoy the movie, and it fits in line with the not-too-overboard action of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

On the other hand, if there’s any comic book movie that should be rated R (to me), it’s Suicide Squad. It’s far-and-above a more adult property than many others in the DC canon, and would have been a breath of fresh air seeing this cast let loose a little bit. Granted, I have no doubt the film will push that rating to the limit.

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
