Among the news coming out of the ABC Upfronts event this afternoon is the announcement that Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will be moving to 10:00 PM, after having aired for two seasons at 9:00 and one season (the first) at 8:00, always on Tuesdays.

Along with the time-slot change announcement came the promise from ABC president Channing Dungey to allow the series “to go a little bit edgier, go a little darker and take some risks.”

The move might be a surprising one to some, as “S.H.I.E.L.D.” has thus far been among the more family-friendly of Marvel Studios’ recent television outings, so pushing the boundaries of its content and moving it past most children’s bedtimes seem like unexpected choices for the show. The far more violent and explicit “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones” series on Netflix have been distinctly adults-only affairs.

The third season finale of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” airs tonight at 9:00 PM on ABC. The fourth season will continue the series on the network in the fall.
