Mary Costa celebrated her 86th birthday on Tuesday.

Does that name sound familiar? Maybe it doesn’t. One thing is for sure, she was the original voice of Princess Aurora in Disney’s 1959 animated classic, Sleeping Beauty. Only this birthday was quite special, as she decided to write an incredibly sweet open letter to all of her fans.

The letter, very humble and gracious, thanks fans for their support throughout the years and recalls some very specific advice that Walt Disney gave her before she took on the role at age 22: “Mary, just remember the three D’s…Dedication, Determination, and Discipline, and you’ll achieve your Dreams!” You can read the full letter below.

Happy birthday, Mary. And thank you for your wonderful work on such a cherished animated classic. For all things Disney, stick with Inside the Magic.
