Labyrinth to celebrate 30th Anniversary with theatrical re-release and deluxe Blu-ray edition

Fathom Events (known for bringing special movie and theatrical events to movie theaters) will be paying homage to the David Bowie cult classic Labyrinth this fall!  The event coincides with the thirtieth anniversary of the film’s release.  Fans can once again journey into the Goblin King’s maze on either Sunday September 11th and again on Wednesday September 14th.  Fathom promises “A special introduction plus, exclusive, never-before-seen content!”

A movie experience fit for a (Goblin) King:

Labyrinth movie posterOriginally released in 1986, produced by George Lucas and directed by Jim Henson, Labyrinth stars David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly and Toby Froud.  The fantasy/musical also features several creations from the Jim Henson Creature Shop.

15 year old Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) has just 13 hours to free her baby brother from the clutches of Goblin King (David Bowie).  To do this, she must solve the labyrinth’s puzzles and pitfalls and reach the maze’s center before time runs out.

Also of note for Labyrinth’s Anniversary: A gorgeous 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray edition.  Well stocked with all-new special content, the $75 box set also features a replica of part of the labyrinth as its container.  According to Amazon the anniversary edition is rendered in 4K video and contains a Dolby Atmos soundtrack for rich 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio (specially enabled receiver/speakers required).     Also because Sony is trying to get into UHD (suc-kerrrrs…), and for the last fifteen years since DVD, whenever Sony gets into a new format, you will always see the EXACT SAME six or seven genre-representative titles released first:
    “Sci-Fi” will be Fifth Element. “Action” will be the latest Spiderman. “Family” will be Jumanji, “Comedy” will be Baron Munchhausen, and “Fantasy” will be Labyrinth.
    Not surprisingly, Sony’s UHD Fantasy title will be hitting shelves around that time.
