Bring on the creeps!

Spooky Empire, one of the biggest horror conventions in the state of Florida, is returning April 1 – 3, 2016 at The Wyndham Orlando Resort; this time with a “retro” theme. For those who don’t know, the convention hasn’t been held there in quite sometime, and the space was always a fan favorite. When they moved to the Doubletree Resort on Kirkman, things just kind of felt tighter and more claustrophobic. So I’m ready for a homecoming.

The annual convention will feature a slew of activities including celebrity autographs with meet & greets, Q&A’s led by special guests, and a tattoo festival with more than 25+ artists such as renowned tattoo artists from Ink Master on hand to tattoo guests. Who doesn’t love a little celebrity ink?  The weekend will also include a pre-con retro party on Thursday night, plus after-hours events for paid attendees on Friday and Saturday, all taking place at Gatorville poolside. So after the frights, get ready to party your socks off for a night of gory craziness.

It may go without saying, but if you haven’t been, now will definitely be the year to go. Furthermore, Spooky Empire guests will enjoy more than 100 vendors and exhibitors that will offer a wide array of wars including art, movies, toys, props, action figures, comic books, special effects, clothing, and jewelry. And if you’re a fan of insane cosplay, this will be your blood-soaked Valhalla! Guests slink around and traverse the halls dressed as their favorite horror and pop-culture icons, creating an environment that is simply one-of-a-kind. Need an example? Check it out:

But what’s a Spooky Empire convention without a slew of celebrity guests? Expected celebrity guests include (but are absolutely not limited to):

  • Megastar and shock rocker Alice Cooper
  • The cast of Weird Science:Anthony Michael Hall, Ilan Mitchell-Smith and Kelly LeBrock
  • Drea de Matteo from The Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy, and Shades of Blue
  • Paul Sorvino from Goodfellas and Repo: The Genetic Opera
  • Godzilla actor and stunt performer Tsutomu Kitagawa
  • the Dream Warriors from A Nightmare on Elm Street and many more.

The weekend will kick off Friday afternoon with a Zombie Walk hosted by Uno Pizzeria located at 8250 International Drive — these things usually packing thousands of people, so Walking Dead fans might want to dive in for a little hands-on action. Makeup artists and special effects artists will be present beforehand giving all guests the opportunity to “walk dead” and zombify themselves to their heart’s content. The walk begins at 12pm in front of Uno Pizzeria and proceed down International Drive to end up at The Wyndham Orlando Resort in time for Spooky Empire’s opening ceremony, and will cap off with its famous Pool Party where guests are able to rub elbows with the celebrities in attendance.

God, I’ve missed the pool party. The good one. Did I mention I’ve missed Spooky at The Wyndham?
