J.K. Rowling expands wizarding world in North America with online series

It’s a good time to be a “wizarding” fan craving for more tales and adventure.

That’s because Harry Potter writer J.K. Rowling is set to expand the wizarding world significantly with a four-part original series called ‘The History of Magic in North America”, to be available exclusively online on her Pottermore web portal.

These official stories are meant to bridge the significant gap in history between the original Harry Potter stories set in modern day Great Britain with the upcoming “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” film, which takes place in 1920s New York and is set to be released on Nov. 18.

EW released an exclusive video preview of what’s to come, including detailed info on the following topics:

  • The U.S. Hogwarts – Ilvermorny
  • Skin-walkers, a Native American legend
  • The Salem witch trials, a formative event for the country’s national magical identity
  • Our Ministry of Magic, the Magical Congress of the United States of America

Earlier this year, Harry Potter actress Evanna Lynch revealed new details from Pottermore at the “A Celebration of Harry Potter” opening night ceremony in Universal Orlando, including the locations of several wizarding schools worldwide. Rowling has promised to release more exclusive stories and info on her site in the future.

The first story in the series is set to be released on Pottermore on March 8 at 9am (ET).
