Here comes another Disney-adapted classic!

Variety reports that Disney is currently developing “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” a new movie based on “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by E.T.A. Hoffmann. Ashleigh Powell is onboard to write the script, and Lasse Hallstrom (The Hundred-Foot Journey) set to direct.

Most fans will recognize the tale from the classic ballet adaptation. The story centers around young Clara, who lovingly receives a nutcracker doll from her godfather on Christmas Eve. Of course, when she goes to check on it later that night, the clock strikes 12 and she finds herself thrust into a fantastical world in which a war rages between gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice.
