Star Wars releases recipe to make your own portions of Rey’s quick-rising Jakku bread

For all the incredible special effects in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” that were generated with the latest tech from Industrial Light & Magic, one intimate moment of Rey preparing a basic meal on Jakku stood out for its apparent simplicity.

Early on in the movie, we’re introduced to Rey’s skill as as scavenger to find valuable spaceship parts, which she would trade in for “portions”. Once she returned home inside the belly of a rusty AT-AT walker, she added liquid to the dry powder given to her by the trader Unkar Plutt and voila, in a flash the bread would quickly rise and be ready to be consumed.

Although it actually took three months to properly develop the practical effect (yup, no CGI tricks here), the official Star Wars site has published a recipe for a quick-rising bread that will only take a moment to prepare — just like Rey did just before crossing paths with BB-8.

Rey’s Portion Bread

Ingredients:
1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil
4 tablespoons cake flour
1-1/2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon matcha powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
2 tablespoons whole milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
1. Place the oil in a mug and swirl around to grease the inside.
2. Add the cake flour, sugar, matcha powder, baking powder and salt into the mug, stirring together.
3. Pour in the milk and vanilla, then cook in the microwave on high for 45 seconds.
4. Let cool slightly and serve.

So who’s ready to dig in? The best part is that you don’t have to deal with Unkar Plutt to make as many portions as you want.
