Frozen, Jack Skellington lead new festive fun in Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party 2014 at Walt Disney World

in Disney, Theme Parks, Walt Disney World

The holiday season is in full swing at Walt Disney World and the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party was held this past Friday at Magic Kingdom.

The separately ticketed event is always a popular Christmas favorite and the first party of the season was a sold out night. Oldies but goodies like the Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade and the Holiday Wishes fireworks show are back this year, but new additions make the event feel fresh for 2014.

MAIN STREET GARLAND

Upon entering the park, guests might notice the garland that normally drapes across Main Street USA for the Christmas season isn’t there. Since the daily Festival of Fantasy parade reaches new heights, the garland has been replaced by smaller arches with bells and wreaths decorating each side of the street – a beautiful substitution.

A FROZEN HOLIDAY WISH

The sparkling Cinderella Castle is the star of any Christmas night at Magic Kingdom and this year fan favorite “Frozen” characters are visiting to help light it up. Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf (in his first-ever park appearance) ask the crowd to help the Queen of Arendelle frost the castle in thousands of shimmering lights. This is a crowd pleaser, but for the best view make sure to be close to the castle stage, as it’s tough to see the characters from far away.  The castle lighting show takes place twice per night, once before the Very Merry party begins and once during the party.

Though the Frozen crew is not meeting and greeting during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, on opening night we were given a chance to say hi to Olaf in a special one time event, to offer an up close view of this new park character.

MICKEY’S ONCE UPON A CHRISTMASTIME PARADE

This fun loving parade has been a Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party staple for many years but this year it has gotten some “Frozen” updates. The Frozen sisters join the parade in a shimmering carriage, Olaf gets his own house float (formerly that of Scrooge McDuck, now sadly absent from the parade) and Kristoff parades in with a bunch of his ice-men friends (taking over Chip and Dale’s float, who are elsewhere in the parade).  Also new for the parade this year is the addition of Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope who have their own little illuminated (and scented!) gingerbread house.

JACK SKELLINGTON MEET AND GREET AS SANDY CLAWS

Meeting rare Disney characters during the party is always a guarantee and this year we got the new addition of Jack Skellington as Sandy Claws. Located in Storybook Circus, Sandy Claws will wish you a frightful Christmas with a properly themed photo spot.

This is one of the best meet and greets as Jack “Sandy Claws” Skellington really enjoys telling guests about his Christmas plans. Line up early or visit during the fireworks for this meet and greet as the line was very long all throughout the night.

JINGLE CRUISE, NOW WITH MORE JINGLE

The Jingle Cruise showed up for the first time last year during Christmas and is back again this year for some more wilderness holiday celebrating. Last year’s complaint of having too little “jingle” in the ride has this year been remedied. Monkeys and lions all play around with garland and presents for this year’s holiday season. The spiel and jokes seem to also gotten an influx of holiday cheer too.

MORE CHARACTER FUN

In Storybook Circus you can also visit with your favorite Duck friends, Donald, Daisy and Scrooge in their holiday finest. New for this season is Minnie Mouse who is joining the group in Storybook Circus in a new Candy Cane dress that is perfect for the holiday season.  You will also find Santa Goofy in this area.

At the Diamond Horseshoe in Liberty Square you can get your holiday groove on with Clara Cluck, the Country Bears, Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar. Some nice rare characters here so make sure to stop by and dance with these guys.

SORCERERS OF THE MAGIC KINGDOM, ELSA’S ICY SHIELD

A popular party favor each year for the holiday parties is the Sorcerer of Magic Kingdom cards that are always themed to the party of the season. For this year’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party the SOTMK card had to, of course, have a Frozen theme. Elsa and Marshmallow are the stars of this card and Elsa uses her icy powers as a spell to defeat the villains in the game.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party continues on select nights through December 19, after which the holiday fireworks and parade will be performed daily as part of normal park operations through the end of the year.
