Haunted Mansion store ‘Memento Mori’ officially opens appropriately amidst Halloween season at Walt Disney World

in Theme Parks, Walt Disney World

“When hinges creek in doorless chambers, and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls…”

Welcome to to the new Haunted Mansion gift shop, Memento Mori, at the Magic Kingdom.

When Disney announced that the Yankee Trader shop in Liberty Square was going to get a Haunted Mansion makeover I don’t think there was a single Disney fan that wasn’t excited. We all waited with bated breath for the new store to open and Disney did not disappoint. The new shop is beautifully detailed and is filled with Disney Haunted Mansion Authentic merchandise, which was created especially for Disney Parks and most of it all being brand new.

Right now the store is so popular you have to wait in line to get in. But fear not, the line moves quickly and this system makes for a much nicer shopping experience whilst inside.

Memento Mori, which means remember death, is located near the exit of the Haunted Mansion attraction and is made to feel like an extension of the ride, with merchandise that feels like it once made its home in the Mansion. There is tons of apparel to please any Haunted Mansion fashionista and lots of home decor to recreate your own Mansion at home. Of course you will find lots of fan-favorite merchandise like art, pins and toys too.

Disney created Memento Mori with the story that it is the previous home of Madame Leota and her presence can be felt in cool details all over the store. You may spot her ghostly face in a mirror and you can also find a portrait of her human form in the store. Make sure to stick around and see the portrait light up with a black-light effect.

Another unique detail of the Memento Mori shop is a corner in the store dedicated to the Spirit Photography. For $19.95 you can get your picture taken and get a photo that, when tilted a certain way, shows you in a more ghostly condition.

The photo room itself is another location that is full of little details like the old school camera and the wallpaper, that from a distance may look like regular Toile de Jouy pattern, but on closer inspection reveals some more sinister characters.

Memento Mori is definitely a step in the right direction for new themed gift shops and I hope we see more of this trend in the future. I would highly recommend you take some time to explore Memento Mori, both for the awesome theming and unique merchandise.

Thank you Amanda and Eric for their participation.
