VIDEO: Backlot Tour tribute as Walt Disney World permanently closes an original Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction

The Backlot Tour has, more or less, been a part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios since it opened in 1989. It began in an entirely different form back when the park was called Disney-MGM Studios. Over the years, it evolved into a tram ride with an effects pre-show and grand finale in Catastrophe Canyon.

In its glory days, it took guests through Residential Street to catch glimpses of the houses from “Golden Girls” and “Empty Next” along with offering opportunities to spot famous vehicles, props, and other relics from popular movies of the past.

Since Lights Motors Action moved in to the park, however, the Backlot Tour became a smaller version of its former self, ultimately closing down this past weekend to make way for bigger (and hopefully better) things ahead.

But you can take one final ride aboard this classic Walt Disney World attraction in the video tribute below, cut together across multiple angles and passes through the ride on its final (rather rainy) day of operation.

What will replace the Backlot Tour? There are many rumors. More Pixar – perhaps Toy Story – maybe on the way. Or will it be something Star Wars? Perhaps even Cars? Only time will tell as Disney’s Hollywood Studios will surely be undergoing some massive changes in the near future.
