Oswald the Lucky Rabbit debuts at Disneyland annual passholder event with rare Disney Afternoon characters

Tonight Disneyland hosted a special event for annual passholders whose passes are expiring between October 1, 2014 and the end of the year, enticing them to renew with a character party.

Taking place across the Disney California Adventure theme park, the event brought back familiar faces from the past and introduced one highly-anticipated one.

The event was called “Fall Back to Fun” and registration was required in advance in order to attend. Those who got in enjoyed an evening of rare characters that included Disney Afternoon stars Darkwing Duck, Launchpad McQuack, and Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers.

Thanks to Sarah Woloski (of Skywalking Through Neverland) and Ashley Mitchell for supplying us with photos and video!

A highlight of the evening was the first-ever appearance of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit at Disneyland, riding in a special cavalcade to Buena Vista Street. Starting September 14, Oswald will be meeting and greeting regularly there.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shorts were being shown in the Muppet*Vision 3D theater as well, with passholders receiving popcorn.

Other characters making appearances included the Bowler Hat Guy, Louis, and Wilber from “Meet the Robinsons,” Remy from “Ratatouille,” Chicken Little, and Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz.

The World of Color fountains danced the night away as passholders were able to meet characters and mingle with each other until midnight.

Disneyland holds these renewal events occasionally and the best way to find out about them is to follow their AP Facebook and Twitter accounts.

While Oswald will become a Disney California Adventure regular soon, there’s no word as to whether the Disney Afternoon characters will continue appearances after tonight. Last year, Roger Rabbit made surprise appearances at the Toontown pre-party for Mickey’s Halloween Party. No such pre-party has been announced this year, but Roger did end up sticking around the park well past those parties so perhaps Darkwing, Launchpad, and more of the Disney Afternoon gang will soon be seen more often.
