Once a convention devoted to the biggest Harry Potter devotees, LeakyCon has expanded in recent years to welcome all kinds of fandom, from Doctor Who to Star Wars to Buffy and beyond.
This past weekend LeakyCon 2014 concluded after bringing nearly 5,000 people to Orlando for the special 5-day event. Movie celebrities, YouTube stars, and authors met with their fans, signed autograph, took photos, and joined in the celebration of all things geeky. And with its continued success, LeakyCon is now announced to become GeekyCon in 2015, rebranded as a full sci-fi/fantasy film, television and book convention
“GeekyCon will continue in the tradition of LeakyCon and be a celebration of fandom,” said Melissa Anelli, co-executive director of Mischief Management, which operates the event. “GeekyCon brings notable guests and compelling programming together with fans to create a positive and uplifting environment where attendees can enjoy themselves and each other.”
At LeakyCon 2014, a small exhibit hall featured mostly Harry Potter themed merchandise. An abundance of magic wands, apparel, artwork, and small crafts filled booths, along with opportunities to meet attending celebrities.
Some interactive wand experiences were also featured, including WizardWarz duels, which allowed attendees to battle with high-tech magic wands, and Wally Vander’s, which offered a chance to cast spells with amusingly animated results similar to that found in Ollivander’s Wand Shop at Universal Orlando.
Presentations big and small were held on a variety of topics, some strictly entertainment from YouTube celebs and fellow fans and others focusing on serious issues like acceptance of different body types and sexual orientations.
Of course, plenty of attendees arrived in costume – mostly Harry Potter and Frozen.

Mischief Management will return LeakyCon to its roots as a smaller, Harry Potter-only event held in different locations around the world. LeakyCon 2015 is being planned for the second half of the year with dates and location to be announced in the coming months.
GeekyCon will return to the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando July 30-Aug. 2 with advance tickets going on sale Aug. 9. More information is available at GeekyCon.com.
