A new line of die-cast vehicles was also revealed, with impressive size and detail across all of Star Wars’ most famous vehicles. Cockpit doors open along with other articulation points, such as AT-AT heads and legs moving and X-Wing wings opening.

Mostly unpainted plastic prototypes were shown off to give an idea of the size and detail on each, seen below. The final products will be hefty, die-cast metal, showcased in collectible packaging.

Another popular product line for Disney Store is plush and their goal with Star Wars is to bring characters and creatures that aren’t the most common.

There’s a Bantha already in stores with a Taun Taun, Jawa, and R2-D2 coming soon. Artoo has an articulated head that rotates.

At a local mall the night before, Disney Store vice president Jonathan Storey also introduced upcoming “Star Wars” events for mall locations beginning on May the 4th (naturally) that include giveaways of free pins, inflatable light sabers, and medals.

A medal participants will receive at Disney Store Star Wars events.
Inflatable light saber will be given away during Disney Store Star Wars events.

This is a sampling of what Disney Store is planning. They’ve already begun work on Episode 7 merchandise for next year’s big movie release along with plenty of products that were unveiled at the recent New York Toy Fair for Star Wars Rebels. And there is a great possibility of higher end collectibles to come.

Disney is treating the Star Wars franchise with care, aiming accurate merchandise at all audiences – general, kids, and hardcore fans – with a little something for everyone.

I have been collecting Star Wars for 35 years and, with the exception of a few pieces that are average, these are some of the worst Star Wars offerings I’ve seen. The body proportion of Jabba is laughable. I really hope Disney steps it up for the new movies.

    1. Slammer

Like they’re going to make a proportionate massive fat slug that no-one is going to buy. :)

  2. Michael

Quality work there Disney, can’t even build an X-Wing properly.

      YOU HAD ONE JOB.

    2. drevil1969uk

Isnt that a prototype though? Therefore not the finished item.

  3. star-w

seems nice for free stuff not the best but still pretty good (anyone have grand ideas for them to grab to improve this)

    1. star-w

oh and some of those space ship toys are doller store leved garbage just cheap way to go disney

      1. Ryan

They said the ships would be die cast and they were pretty much just displaying plastic prototypes not the finished product so don’t get cranky – looks like great detail on the Falcon!

        That 12″ Stormtrooper looks great!

        1. star-w

huh i guess yore right but that inflatible lightsaber is still garbage though

It’s a freebie for kids who attend the events. The real ones are $45 and they’re not going to give those away for free!!

  4. sid cahuenga

storey doesn’t seem to know what the hell he’s talking about

    1. Anon

If you knew Jonathan personally, you’d know he’s one of the biggest Star Wars fans around. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all… Especially if you don’t know the person!

  5. Michael Corley

I’m not saying I want all of these in my office now, but I want all of these in my office NOW!

  6. Mike Sidious

I’ve been collecting for thirty five years as well and these are some of the nicest items I’ve seen in a long time. In particular the twelve inch figures – excellent likeness of Solo – even better than the high end Sideshow sculpt.
Now if only Hasbro could lift their game….

  7. hobgoblin238

Awesome! SO glad these will be available to the public. Plan on getting the plushies, the 13 dollar statues etc. GOOD call Disney!

  8. deckard

The engines on the x wing have been put on backwards. How could nobody of noticed that before they published a photo of it

    1. Ha! You’re right! They ARE on backwards. How in the world did they miss that?!

    2. Stan Solo

I thought the same thing as soon as I looked at it.

I had higher hopes for these collectables. It looks like they are going after the kid market and not the adult collector.

The coffee mugs look great though.

      1. Russ

The Hasbro Titanium Ultra series of larger die cast vehicles were far superior to these. I have several of the Disney and the only really well done one is the Star Destroyer. Of course I remind myself these are for kids to play with whereas the Titanium Ultra were more for the collector. I have hopes that the Hot Wheels Six inch series will be a lot better.

  9. Baz

Leia and Luke look odd. I like the plush toys though ..oh the mugs as well. Not too bad a line up, but not too great either.

  10. StormtrooperDan

I bought a Chewbacca today love it :-)

  11. Jeremy

Holy butts people are cranky about these. The 18″ talking figures look freaking sweet, as do the mugs. The 18″ figures are the best quality I’ve ever seen for $30, I’m excited.

  12. Dave

I wouldn’t say “with a little something for everyone”. There isn’t any prequel merchandise shown. It’s not just kids that grew up with the prequels that love them. I was born in 1977, so I was definitely an original trilogy kid, but I love the prequels every bit as much as I love Episodes IV – VI and I’m not the only one.

    1. drevil1969uk

Its almost as if they want to ignore the abomination and travesty that the prequels were!

  13. Janise

The faces on the Han Solo & Luke Skywalker are not very likeness of the characters. Also the painting is too shiny on their faces and looks weird. I don’t think I want those. Just Darth & the Stormtrooper looks good.

Disney needs to employ a real Star Wars fan to help with feedback for the sculpts of the Star Wars merchandise. It could be much better.

  14. Kris

Three of the larger articulated talking figures are out. I purchased the Stormtrooper and it’s spot on! Nice open front display for the collector. The vocals and detail are great. Highly recommend this one.
…Side note: Has anyone else noticed how Princess Leah figures are often bizarre looking? I know what Austin Powers would say if he saw some of these: “She’s a MAN baby!”. Carrie Fisher is gorgeous- get Disney artists to replicate her beautiful face!

  15. Do you mind if I quote a couple of your articles as long as I provide credit and sources
back to your weblog? My blog is in the very same area of interest as yours and my users would definitely benefit from some of the information you present here.

Please let me know if this alright with you.

    Appreciate it!
