Keeping with the elegance and charm of one of Walt Disney World’s original hotels, The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa officially opened yesterday with a small ceremony to debut this big resort addition. Mickey and Minnie Mouse were on hand along with hotel and Disney Vacation Club executives to mark the occasion, then leading a first look inside.
Located just a short monorail ride away from the Magic Kingdom, the Grand Floridian has featured a distinctly Victorian style since 1988 along the shores of the Seven Seas Lagoon. With its white walls and red roofs, this hotel’s appearance has been unmistakeable for decades, requiring Imagineers to get it just right when designing the new Disney Vacation Club wing. Led by Debbie Peterson, Imagineers combined classic aesthetics with a few Disney twists, injecting elements from “Mary Poppins” and “Dumbo” into the decor, while still retaining the familiar feel.
Take a look around The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in the video below, including interviews with Peterson as well as DVC executives.

The lobby of The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa provides a few whimsical touches, most notably a “Mary Poppins”-themed bronze fountain featuring penguins, along with miniature carousel horses. Elevators also sport Poppins’ umbrella.
The new resort features several different villa accommodations, able to sleep anywhere from five to nine guests – or even more with adjoining rooms. This is the first Disney Vacation Club property to feature deluxe studios sleeping up to five guests. And if that’s not enough, the grandest of the grand – the “grand villas” – can sleep up to 12 guests amidst multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and living areas that include a media room with a home theater system. It’s like staying in a house on Disney property. Even the bathroom mirrors have TVs. But even with all the modern amenities still comes a classic elegance, with luxurious touches sprinkled throughout each villa.
Whether inside the one-bedroom, studio, or grand villa accommodations, there is plenty of room to spread out with living spaces, a kitchen, and large bathrooms with walk-in showers. For the ultimate relaxation, there is also a tub with jets.

Disney Vacation Club has been around since 1991 and continues to expand regularly. Though The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa have just opened, fans’ eyes are already eagerly looking ahead to Disney’s Polynesian Resort, home to the next DVC expansion. Disney isn’t ready to spill the details on that one just yet, though rumors point to it featuring “floating” shoreside villas.
But until that is ready, the Grand Floridian will be home to the newest DVC rooms, certainly among the most refined of all, but comfortable enough to make anyone feel at home.
