Though San Diego Comic-Con 2013 has come and gone, locals and travelers are still today feeling the effects of the zombie invasion that once again swept across the city. Last week, The Walking Dead Escape took over Petco Park, sending fans of the hit AMC TV show through yet another grueling obstacle course, dodging walkers while climbing, crawling, jumping, and running to survive.
I was once again sucked into the madness.
Despite leaving last year’s first-ever event with ripped shorts and a bloodied toe, I returned for more. But this time, the walkers were out for revenge, with bigger threats and a more intense course to conquer.
And this time, I didn’t make it through quite so easily, coming out the other side with substantial wounds to my arms and legs and after taking a nasty spill halfway through. Naturally, it was all caught on camera, showcased once again in the videos below.

Now, a week later, I am still nursing those wounds, a reminder of my second brush with death at the hands of zombies in San Diego. But despite being infected by the zombie virus and subsequently shot in the head, I am still alive with battle scars to prove I made it through. And though right now I’d like to say I won’t return to do it again next year, once my cuts and scrapes heal, I have a feeling I’ll be back.
After hosting a successful two events in San Diego and one in Philadelphia, The Walking Dead Escape will be making its way around the country, with more than 10 cities on the list for future invasions I’m told. So stay tuned to your local news to learn when the next zombie apocalypse may take place.
