Walt Disney World began holding previews of the newly-enhanced Test Track ride at Epcot this weekend for cast members and their guests. The new 2.0 version of the attraction follows the same thrilling track as it has since it first opened in 1999 but with an all-new look and soundtrack, focusing on the design elements of creating cars rather than testing them. The new version of the attraction places passengers inside a “SimCar,” riding through a dark, sleek environment that looks like something straight out of Disney’s “Tron.”

The attraction isn’t 100% complete yet, but it’s quite close. It officially opens on December 6, just a few days from now. But if you can’t wait, the video below offers a first look at the entire ride, presented in 1080p HD with binaural audio, so wear headphones while watching for the most enjoyment.

The longer video below takes a tour through the whole queue, including the full Chevrolet Designer Center process, and most of the post-show (some areas were not operational yet today). This video also includes the same full ride as above, for completeness.

For comparison, here’s the original Test Track queue and ride, as it all looked a few days shortly before it closed earlier this year:

The actual track of the new Test Track remains the same as the original, but all of the visuals and audio have been replaced, from the outside in. The only section that looks essentially the same is the outside high-speed portion. Though the concept is still the same, sending a car through a variety of tests, it’s now done by placing guests inside a computer world. But the actual experience is not a simulator, as the forces are very real as the vehicle accelerates, takes tights turns, and brakes rapidly.

Throughout, all the previous decor featuring yellows and blacks representing a realistic car test facility has been replaced with vibrant colors and high-definition projections set on a dark black background. Giant animated walls now prevent riders from peeking ahead into upcoming scenes. Though the layout is the same, the entire ride feels completely different.

The ride’s queue has a classic Epcot feel to it, down to the old World of Motion logos scattered throughout signs and trash cans around the new Test Track. The queue begins with a few Chevrolet concept cars, followed by a video featuring car artists describing how vehicles are designed, set behind a 3D animated vehicle model that is sketched out and colored in.

Further, into the queue, guests enter the Chevrolet Design Center, creating their own vehicle designs by modifying attributes including color, length, width, engine type, wheels, body shape, and many more. Ultimately this design is carried onto the ride via RFID-equipped cards and “tested” (scored).
