Inside the New Senses Spa at the Grand Floridian Resort, Pampering Walt Disney World Guests With Soothing Experiences

in Disney, Entertainment, Food

Borrowing a name from the popular offerings of Disney Cruise Line, the new Senses Spa at Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort begins Disney’s own ownership of all their spas. A complete renovation from its previous incarnation, the new spa takes visitors on a sensory journey that offers rest and relaxation through far more than just a massaging touch, reaching out to sight, smell, sounds, and sweet tastes.

When the new Senses spa opens on Dec. 17, visitors will immediately notice the new approach to pampering, inviting guests to choose one of three paths to accompany them through the experience: relax, renew, or imagine. These three words guide the lighting color scheme as well as signature food and drink flavors that enhance the retreat. But at the core of it all is room after room of blissful peace, whether it’s via a gentle massage, a heated seat, or a dip in a hot tub.

Take a tour through the new facility in the video below, featuring thoughts from spa director Ginger McLean on its recent recreation.

During this preview, I didn’t have a chance to enjoy any of the services offered by the new spa, but I did sample the unique food and drink that will be served when it opens next week. The Mango Tango drink that begins the “imagine” journey is sweet and tangy, definitely a great way to open up the senses. Within the lounges, muffins aren’t overly rich, but flavorful enough to satisfy any small hunger that may hinder full relaxation. Cucumber water is always a refreshing and rejuvenating favorite. In the end, jellies mirror the flavors of the initial drinks but with an extra punch of sweetness to send guests on their way. It all transforms a typical spa visit into a bit of a welcome culinary adventure.

Guests looking for an escape from the tiring trips through Walt Disney World theme parks will surely find it at the new Senses spa. But reservations are filling up fast, already having been available since mid-November. Fortunately, some of the spa’s facilities can be enjoyed even without spending half the day there, leaving a little something for everyone. Even little ones have a place at Senses, with special offerings available for nearly all ages.
