First-ever Jack and Sally meet-and-greet at Walt Disney World draws thousands in celebration of ‘Frankenweenie Weekend’

In celebration of Tim Burton’s upcoming film “Frankenweenie,” Jack Skellington and Sally from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” appeared at Walt Disney World for the first time ever this past weekend. It was part of a Downtown Disney event called Frankenweenie Weekend, taking place from September 28 – 30, 2012. Though Jack and Sally can be commonly seen annually at Disneyland in California since the debut of the Haunted Mansion Holiday ride overlay several years ago, this is the first time the popular character duo have ever met and taken pictures with fans in Florida.

“The Nightmare Before Christmas” is similar to “Frankenweenie” in many respects, both stemming from the macabre mind of Tim Burton, created using stop motion animation, and featuring wild and entirely unique characters. Though Burton’s newest film doesn’t hit theaters until this Friday, October 5, fans showed up to Downtown Disney by the hundreds, some waiting more than three hours to meet the rare characters.

The line to meet Jack and Sally wrapped back and forth in front of the AMC Downtown Disney movie theater, which was also playing special engagements of “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” and a handful of free “Frankenweenie” advance screenings.

Cast members gave out free trading cards and paper masks, while supplies lasted, and special “Frank & Weenie” hot dogs and “Franken-Fusion Lemonade” drinks were offered.

Also part of Frankenweenie Weekend, a New Holland Cemetery backdrop was set up for guests to take pictures in front of.

Many fans hope the extreme popularity of the meet-and-greet will entice Walt Disney World to offer more from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” in the future. It’s unlikely the Haunted Mansion Holiday ride makeover will be added to the Magic Kingdom any time soon, but perhaps this won’t be the last time Jack and Sally show their faces in Orlando.
