“On your mark… get set… GO!” are immortal words immediately recognizable to those who grew up in the late ’80s and early ’90s watching Marc Summers host the gak-filled Nickelodeon game show “Double Dare” and today the Nick Hotel in Orlando has announced the return of the much-beloved super sloppy show.

Nickelodeon Suites Resort will be adding a new “Double Dare Live” show officially beginning on May 25th. It won’t be televised, but Studio Nick at the Nick Hotel will be inviting guests to be “part of the act” this summer with a “modernized” version of the popular game show featuring state-of-the-art technology and today’s pop culture.

“We are thrilled to bring Double Dare to the Nick Hotel,” said Tony Aslanian, director of sales, marketing and revenue management for Nickelodeon Suites Resort. “The game show is just one more way we are creating experiences that are fun, interactive and memorable for the entire family here at the hotel.”

Studio Nick is being transformed into the Double Dare sound stage, an updated version of the classic Double Dare set. Eight players will be chosen from an audience to compete on the Blue Team or Red Team, answering trivia questions from LED flat screens encompassing 25 years of Double Dare history. And yes – there will be physical challenges, presumably with plenty of slime.

The original “Double Dare” has a strong connection to Orlando, having been taped for several years at the former Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios Florida. The show first debuted in 1986 out of Philadelphia and ultimately finished its televised run in 1993 as “Family Double Dare.” A later version of the show, “Double Dare 2000,” attempted to bring back the energy and excitement of the original but was cancelled less than a year after its debut.

Previews for this interactive game show experience begin May 21 with the official debut set for Memorial Day weekend, May 25, 2012.

Nights at Nick Hotel can be booked at NickHotel.com.
