Autobots and Decepticons will soon battle in California as Universal Studios Hollywood this week revealed its new theme park attraction Transformers: The Ride 3D will open in May 2012. The 3D-equipped ride follows in the footsteps of King Kong 3D in the same park and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure, both of which were created by the same team that has dreamed up the new Transformers ride.

Universal Studios Hollywood is inviting fans to get ready for the robots in disguise with a new teaser web site at PrepareForBattle.com, featuring a chance to “enlist” by submitting a name and e-mail address, to return later (on Feb. 4, 2012) for “combat training” with the hopes of winning collectibles and even a trip to “N.E.S.T. H.Q. in Los Angeles” – the ride itself.

The site also features a teaser video, showing off some of the ride’s footage that includes up-close encounters with Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, and other familiar Transformers from the Michael Bay series of films.

On the site, the ride is described as:

In May 2012, N.E.S.T. relocates to a covert location at Universal Studios Hollywood, as the Battle Begins with Transformers: The Ride 3D, an immersive, next generation thrill ride that blurs the line between fiction and reality. Fusing HD 3D media and flight simulation technology, this epic ride creates an experience unlike anything this planet has ever seen. Based on the popular movie franchise, this mind-blowing new Transformers adventure puts you in the middle of the ultimate war zone. Fight alongside Optimus and try to survive as you protect the All Spark from Decepticons over four stories tall. Remember, the future of the human race is counting on you. Prepare for the greatest battle you’ll ever ride.

Transformers: The Ride 3D has already opened at Universal Studios Singapore.

Universal Studios has offered steep competition in the world of theme parks in recent years, with the hugely successful Wizarding World of Harry Potter not only having opened in Orlando in 2010, but also recently announced to be expanded there as well as in development for the Hollywood park. Meanwhile theme park giant Disney plans to open its long-awaited Cars Land at the Disneyland Resort in Summer 2012, likely in June, within a few weeks of Transformers premiering at Universal Studios Hollywood. It will be a battle between Optimus Prime and Lightning McQueen to see which popular cars come out on top, but as always with new attractions, theme park fans are the winners, with more new entertainment to enjoy.
