The soundtrack to the upcoming film “The Muppets” will feature 30 tracks of Muppetational hilarity including a few familiar songs performed in unfamiliar ways. The album will be released on November 21, 2011, two days before the film starring Jason Segal and Amy Adams hits theaters.
The Muppet Barbershop Quartet is listed on track 20 of the soundtrack as covering Nirvana’s smash hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” with former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl even making a cameo appearance, backing the group on drums. Track 22 features Camilla and The Chickens performing the family-friendly version of Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You,” a perfect fit after Green’s performance wearing a colorful chicken suit at the 2011 Grammy Awards.
The film and soundtrack will also feature covers of Paul Simon’s “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard” and Starship’s “We Built This City.”

…”Moopets”?
I’m already beginning to piece an idea of the smarmy, condescending Enchanted-like plot gags together from the soundtrack descriptions, and good gravy, this sounds like a Biblical-proportions disaster.
I think the Moopets are more… blergh version of the Muppets that they hire when Miss Piggy doesn’t wants to come back with the gang or something.
No, the full Trailer 2’s already out on YahooMovies (and finally showing us the plot and gags of the actual movie…What, no Mad Men parody? 9_9 )
The “Moopets” turn out to be a tough rival gang, who try to muscle in but ultimately get Pork Chopped.
Now, as for the “Barbershop quartet” singing Nirvana…
Every scene in the two full trailers–and Jason & Amy are practically IN every scene–suggests 00’s slackers dressing up and smugly showing off what they remember about the 70’s show.
This isn’t the Muppets movie, this’s a big screen version of the 90’s Weezer music video.
This may be the only cover of a Nirvana song that doesn’t suck. I love the Muppets so I can’t wait to see the new movie.
