in Entertainment, Merchandise, Movies

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is a humor-filled video game journey through all four of Disney’s “Pirates” films, recently released on XBox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, PC, and the new Nintendo 3DS. We previously reviewed the game and gave away a copy for XBox 360 and now it’s your chance to win again, this time for Playstation 3 or PSP.

How to Enter:

This time around, it’s a Twitter-only contest. The contest period is 5 days and you can enter one per day! And since we’re giving away a copy of the game for both PS3 and PSP, there are actually two potential prizes to win. And thus there are two ways to enter, one for each prize.

To enter to win the PS3 version of “LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game”, follow @InsideTheMagic and simply post the following on Twitter (it’s exactly 140 characters):

Important: You must follow @InsideTheMagic for the duration of the contest period to be entered, as we will DM (direct message) the winner on Twitter. We cannot message you if you’re not following us.

You can enter either or both contests once each day, June 13 – 17.

Contest Rules:

This contest is open to anyone worldwide. The prizes being given away are one (1) copy of “LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game” for PS3 in NTSC format and one (1) copy of “LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game” for PSP.

Entry period begins as of the time of this post and ends on June 17, 2011 at 11 p.m. ET. / 8 p.m. PT. Only entries received during this period will be accepted. One entry is allowed per person, per method, per prize, per day (maximum of 10 entries per person across both prizes). Anyone found to use multiple Twitter accounts to enter will be deemed ineligible and disqualified.

All entries received via Twitter will be pooled together and one (1) winner for each prize will be chosen at random from that list, for a total of two (2) winners. The winner of each prize may be the same person. The winner(s) will be notified on June 18, 2011 by Twitter DM (direct message). The winner(s) will have 72 hours to respond with a mailing address before a new winner is chosen.

Upon verification of the winner(s), the prizes will be mailed via the carrier of our choice on or around June 20, 2011 with no guaranteed delivery date.

Interview

Need more information about LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean? We asked Jonathan Smith, Head of Production at TT Games, a few questions about its creation:

1. How did you take the existing “Pirates of the Caribbean” senses of humor and adventure and blend it with the zaniness of the LEGO video game series?

The fun and mischief of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie series is a perfect fit for LEGO. Those wonderful, colourful characters, with their extraordinary quirks, are entirely at home in a LEGO world where anything is possible.

2. What was the art/design process like in translating the countless “Pirates” characters and locations into LEGO form?

We have an incredibly talented art team, now well versed in the process of LEGO-fication. Close attention to the source material; terrific support from Disney and LEGO; and a well-honed set of rules, sets us on a good path. And we just love how everyone’s turned out, in LEGO form.

3. Was it difficult to pack four blockbuster movies into one video game title?

We’ve already tackled three or four movies in each of our previous LEGO games, so the basic principles were familiar: focus on the big action sequences and key settings, with the rest of the story briskly sketched in through cutscenes. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies are packed with great locations, which gave us plenty to work with.

4. Are there hidden (or obvious) references to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride in the LEGO games?

Yes! If you manage to collect every one of the Gold Bricks in the game, you’ll be able to unlock a secret level based on the “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride. That’s something we planned to do right from the start, and it was a lot of fun to build.

5. This is the first LEGO video game title for the new Nintendo 3DS.  What challenges did you face in developing for that platform in 3D?

Actually, we’ve already produced LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars for Nintendo 3DS, so we were very well prepared, technically for the new opportunities afforded by that platform. We love working on 3DS, and the 3D effects in LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean create, we think, a brand new level of immersion in the game.
