Blackbeard to be added to Pirates of the Caribbean rides in Disneyland and Walt Disney World

On the day “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” hits theaters, May 20, 2011, the film’s new villain Blackbeard will become part of the attraction all four “Pirates” films are inspired by.

Replacing the waterfall appearance of Davy Jones near the beginning of the Pirates of the Caribbean rides at Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom will be actor Ian McShane as Captain Blackbeard, who recently filmed a new shot specifically for the attraction.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, Walt Disney Imagineering writer Michael Sprout directed the shoot with McShane, who arrived in his Blackbeard costume, including the sword.

But Blackbeard’s appearance may be temporary. Disney says Davy Jones will return later this year.

Here’s a video of the Davy Jones waterfall effect as it appeared when it premiered in 2006 (along with Audio-Animatronic versions of Captain Jack Sparrow):
