A totally new spin on Disney’s classic Haunted Mansion attraction called Mystic Manor is currently being built at Hong Kong Disneyland and composer Danny Elfman has been hired to compose the score for the attraction.
Elfman is no stranger to strange worlds, having scored many of director Tim Burton’s films including The Nightmare Before Christmas, which inspired the annual overlay of The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland called Haunted Mansion Holiday. Elfman is a fan of The Haunted Mansion, naturally, and jumped at the chance to create what is almost guaranteed to become new classic Disney music for a new classic Disney dark ride.
In his recent first visit to Hong Kong, Elfman presented artwork and examined miniatures of the upcoming Mystic Manor attraction. Hong Kong Disneyland this week released a video interview with Elfman about his upcoming attraction score and including new concept art and visuals from the attraction:
Artwork and the ride layout for Mystic Manor were unveiled in detail to Disney fans during the 2009 D23 Expo in Anaheim. While similar in feel to The Haunted Mansion, Mystic Manor will be an attraction unto itself, focusing not on the paranormal but rather on voodoo and other similarly magical enchantments.
The video offers a few new looks by way of scale models that were not previously on display.
Mystic Manor will be found in a new land at Hong Kong Disneyland called Mystic Point, for which Danny Elfman also will be composing music. It’s all part of a major multi-land expansion to the park, scheduled to be completed some time in 2013.
